![]() These speakers are real wood, so you can refinish them to look as good as they sound, too. Crites even carries the original speaker cloth for grills, logos, etc. If you are looking for a killer pair of mid fi speakers on the cheap pick up a pair of these and put in the Crites crossover and horn tweeter upgrades. If you have a pair, hang onto them and consider this cheap upgrade. Putting the horns and crossovers back in takes 5 minutes with a screwdriver, and for under $200 these speakers sound great and are ready to do so for another 20 years. I can't compare the present to 1986, but I would venture to say that these sound much better than they ever did, and as good or better than anything less than $1200 a pair I have listened to anywhere else. I have always loved these speakers, but the upgrades have me hearing things I haven't heard in years deep within some of my favorite tracks. Not wanting to try soldering myself, I removed the horns and the crossovers and sent everything to Crites to rebuild the crossover and put in the upgraded titanium diaphrams in the horns.Total cost was $200 shipped back to my door. I have kept these in pristine condition other than playing them really loud for two decades. I still have my vintage 1986 Klipsch KG4's that I purchased new, but they had become a bit dull in the mids and one horn seemed to slightly clip. You will spend hours and hours enjoying music and your ROI will be very high. I have the KG4 as my rear speakers, the heresy as my front pair, with a Klipsch subwoofer and 2 Klipsch bookshelf for front sides. I was surprised to learn that Dolly Parton (Country singer) wrote Whitney Houston (R&B singer) biggest hit! ![]() As part of a complete system I’m building, it is an experience (listening to vinyl, and CD’s instead of the low quality mp3). Given these things, it’s really not fair to just state a speaker is “good or bad”.įor my listening preferences, Jazz, Classical, and some Blues, R&B Soul, and yes “Country”, these KG4’s are excellent. I learned about soundstage, positioning and a whole host of other factor which SHOULD be considered. I compared my KG4’s to other systems he add, and I learned how different speakers respond to different music choices. I spent 2 hours just talking about audio systems before we even got to why I was there - to purchase the Klipsch KG4 pair. That all said, I presently can’t afford to pursue audio to learn, experience and share like he does. The gentleman literally has every high end system, McIntosh, Polk, Definitive, Klipsch, Vintage Sansui, Technics, Marantz, Pioneer and more. I purchased my KG4’s from an Audiophile and serious collector. ![]()
